CLASS Munch Accessibility Details

CLASS strives to make our events as accessible as we can. We hope the information below will be helpful to attendees looking to join our munches who have accessibility concerns. Please contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns about accessibility of our events.

Entrance

The main entrance of the bar is level with the footpath and has two sets of double doors. The outer doors open in and are generally propped open. The inner doors open out.

Anyone wishing to smoke is requested to do so either outside the main entrance (there is usually a small amount of outdoor furniture here), or in the smoking area at the back of the bar. The smoking area is accessed via a corridor past the bar, which has a few single manual doors and small ramps. The smoking area is entered via one of two single doors which are usually propped open and have a slight lip at the base.

Toilets

Main toilets are separated by gender and are located down a flight of steps near the entrance to the smoking area. A separate and non-gendered accessible toilet is located off the corridor to the smoking area.

The accessible toilet measures approximately 5’x7’ and contains a toilet with a pull bar on the wall, emergency pull cord, a separate low sink with a long handled tap, and no other equipment. There may be other items (cleaning supplies, etc) stored in the area. The entrance is a single door that opens inwards and is generally kept locked. The key for the accessible toilet may be requested from the bar staff when needed.

Flooring

The main bar flooring is terrazzo apart from a small section of tile covered in carpet just inside the door. Flooring in the main bar is level with the footpath at the main entrance. The smoking area has brick flooring and is level with the exception of the ramps in the corridor and a slight lip at the entrance. Other flooring is tile. Floors may be slippery when wet.

Layout and Spaciousness

Seating is a combination of tall bar stools and shorter mis-matched chairs and stools, with a padded bench along the front section of the bar. Our reserved section has tables at normal seating level with legs at the corners. Other tables have legs located towards the centre of the table. Furniture can be moved to facilitate access if needed as some spaces can become tighter when crowded.

Crowding and noise

Crowding levels vary widely, from quite spacious to moderately busy. Noise levels vary similarly.

There is sometimes background music which is usually set at a slightly lower than typical conversation level but can sometimes get louder.

Lighting

Lighting levels vary. Much of the bar area is well lit while our reserved area is on the dim side of the typical range

Food/Allergens/Odours

The bar serves food (pub food menu with allergens listed and vegetarian/vegan options available), therefore associated allergens and odours may be present. Menu is subject to change without notice. Crisps and peanuts are available for purchase from the bar.

Beverages

Alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages are available for purchase from the bar. Tap water may be requested from the bar free of charge.

Financial Access

We ask that our attendees make a purchase from the bar to support the venue (we are not paying a booking fee to use the space).

Temperature

Temperatures are generally well controlled inside the bar.

Transport

Our venues are located within the city centre, and are therefore within a few minutes’ walk of many public transport options. The venue does not have separate parking, and availability of parking on-street and in nearby car parks varies.

Dress Code and Discretion

We ask that you dress as you normally would when going to the pub to avoid attracting attention to our group. Bags/backpacks are welcome. No photography is allowed by participants in our munches.

Staff Relations

The moderators maintain an ongoing relationship with the venue staff, in which we gently educate them about our community as questions arise. We are also happy to assist with any accessibility-related conversations with venue staff.
